The Dash Profile 2008

The Dash - Maxi Racing Yacht

• A spectacular wind craft endurance event racing from the Canary Islands to Tarfaya, Morocco. The original format of the event makes it possible for different categories of wind craft to compete within their own groups. The Dash is an “Invitational” event whereby a limited number of highly skilled sailors are invited to compete and test their sailing skills to the maximum.

• It is a 1 day race, but a 2 day event leaving Fuerteventura early morning on Day 1 and arriving at Tarfaya, between mid afternoon to mid evening of the same day. Participants, media and spectators have the pleasure of experiencing true Moroccan hospitality with a fabulous Saharan evening of typical music, dance and dining. Participants will overnight in Tarfaya in traditional Moroccan tents or on boats and return to Lanzarote on Day 2 either by boat or by taking the ferry back to Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and then a second ferry from Corralejo (Fuerteventura) to Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) if required.

• Racing groups: Windsurfers, Hobie Cats, Kitesurfers, other sailing craft (Trimaran, Catamaran, J80’s etc)

• Media and Spectators: Specialist media and invited spectators will be able to follow the race from the main support craft (the number of spectators is determined by the number of support boats used that particular year). Fast craft will also be available for Media required to be ahead of the race.

• Race Structure: Every participant will have a portable VHF radio and GPS system. Contestants will be teamed with a partner using the same type of craft for the endurance part of the crossing. For this first section the participants will sail with their partners. The pre-planned route will be followed via the GPS system. The race distance is between 2 markers. The start marker is off the coast of Corralejo, Fuerteventura and the finish marker is off the coast of Tarfaya, Morocco

• There will be a trophy for every participant who completes the race.

• Sponsorship: Contact us for more details

• Safety and Security: We follow guidelines and regulations as issued by the regulatory authorities and use support craft with VHF radio and hand held GPS. All participants are highly experienced sailors using both portable VHF radios and GPS systems. Participants are teamed with a partner for the longest section of the crossing and each pair will be followed by a support boat (Rib). The Red Cross support us with their presence and experience along with our own First Aid team and Head of Security (José Manuel Galán)

• Insurances: The event is insured although participants must have private cover for themselves and their equipment
