The Dash 01/06/08
In July 2003 a selected and privileged group of sailors led the way to establishing this event with a unique adventure from Lanzarote to Sahara…..The ‘Dash’ is one of the most fulfilling events around as its about people enjoying sport, having fun, embracing adventure, experiencing culture and making a difference.
Since its conception this event has had several notable achievements including:
- Kirsty Jones setting a world record in kitesurfing when she covered 220 kilometres in less than 9 hours (2006)
Taking hundreds of people from the Canaries to Tarfaya and Layounne to experience this fascinating region of Morocco
Many thousands of euros of wheel-chairs, clothing, nappies and other much needed equipment have been donated to the local charities by the competitors and people living in Lanzarote. Competitors are often sponsored to make the crossing i.e. Kirsty Jones raised €2,000
Attention from International media has made the event one of the most televised events from the Canaries (shown on over 70 channels world-wide including Eurosport) - Documented improved connections (cultural, political, tourist, transport, investment) between the Canaries and Morocco
